The Wilton Project Workshop Series are hands-on, specialty classes that The Bake It Yourself Store has designed jointly with Wilton Industries, Inc. Upon completion of these classes, students will be presented with a certificate of completion from The Bake It Yourself Store and Wilton.
The perfect cake must taste as tempting as it looks. To decorate your cake well, your base cakes must be firm to hold the weight of specific icings popularly used for cake decorating. Not all cakes can be covered with rolled fondant, for example. In this hands on baking class, our Wilton Method Instructors will share the secrets of preparing luscious and firm cakes and filling. In our state-of-the-art classroom, using our top of the line Gaggenau ovens and Kenwood mixers, you will be paired with another student and, working as a team, you will mix and bake a base cake firm enough for decorating, to achieve the ideal texture, color and shape professionals demand. We offer different cake recipes in different Wilton baking workshops, so you can select exactly which cakes you want to learn, and when. This class is also a perfect pre-class to the world famous Wilton Method of Cake Decorating Course 1. It helps you learn baking basics so you create the best possible cake on which to practice your cake decorating.

The Wilton Better Baking Workshop Series currently covers the following cakes & recipes per workshop:
Students will make 2 cakes each - Traditional Butter Cake and Chocolate Butter Cake. These 2 recipes have been carefully selected and tested for the best in their category - the Traditional Butter Cake tastes dense at first, then melts in your mouth, leaving a light buttery flavour. The Chocolate Butter Cake is light, fudgy, super chocolatey and melts in your mouth. Both cakes can hold the weight of all icings, including rolled fondant / sugarpaste, and are the perfect bases for all your decorating projects.
Class Duration: 3 hours
Students will make one Chocolate Fudge Cake, hands on, and the complementary Fudge Filling will be demonstrated. This is a very popular recipe and students have commented that it is the best Chocolate Fudge Cake they have ever tasted! As usual, we carefully selected and tested this cake for the best in it's category. This cake can hold the weight of all icings, including rolled fondant / sugarpaste, and is a good base for your decorating projects.
Class Duration: 3 hours
NEW! Series Three: Orange Almond Cake and Orange Flavoured Whipped Cream Students will make one Orange Almond Cake and one batch of Orange Flavoured Whipped Cream. This is a dense, no raise cake that is extremely flavourful. It can be enjoyed plain, with some fruit garnishes and a sprinkling of icing sugar on top. It can also be a perfect base for baking in novelty cake pans, as it will not raise. This cake can also hold the weight of all icings, including rolled fondant / sugarpaste, and is a good base for your decorating projects.
Class Duration: 2.5 hours
Students will receive a Wilton - B-I-Y Certificate upon completion and take home their own creative confections
Students are required to bring the following personal items for the class: (We recommend that all personal items brought to class be labeled to prevent loss. We are not responsible for lost items.)
