CHECK BEFORE YOU ENROL FOR ANY WILTON COURSE / PROJECT CLASSES

 

 

To ensure the quality and standard of your learning experience when you enrol in any certified Wilton Method of Cake Decorating Course or Wilton Project Classes, and the authenticity of your Wilton Certificate, Wilton Products Inc. stringently monitors the standards of their courses in these 3 areas:

 

 

1) Course curriculum

 

2) Wilton Method Instructor - All Wilton Method Instructors must have valid instructor certificates. Wilton Products Inc. renews instructor certificates on a yearly basis to ensure high standards of teaching.

 

3) Premises where Wilton Courses and Project Classes are conducted - Wilton Products Inc. does not allow Wilton Courses to be taught in private homes or non authorised premises. All Wilton certified classes must be conducted in a Wilton Authorised Course Centre. Wilton Products Inc. checks all authorised centres certified to conduct Wilton courses, to ensure high standards. All Authorised Centres worldwide must have valid Wilton Course Centre certificates as well.

 

 

Before enrolling in any Wilton certified course or workshop, you have the right to ask to see your instructor's Wilton Method of Instructor Certificate (which must be valid) as well as the Wilton Authorised Centre certificate which authorises that particular premise to teach Wilton Courses and Project Classes.

 

Please beware of people who claim that they are certified to conduct Wilton certified Courses and Project Classes in the premises of their private homes or in premises unauthorised by Wilton. Certified Wilton Instructors can conduct Wilton courses only within Wilton Authorised Centres. If any one of the 3 conditions are not met, your Wilton Course certificate may not be authentic.

 

The Bake It Yourself Store's Wilton Authorised Centre Certificate is posted at our Store. Please feel free to view it when you attend our classes.We also guarantee that all our Wilton instructors have valid Wilton instructor certificates.

Our retail store carries the widest range of dessert decorating products, and the courses we conduct specialise in all kinds of dessert decorating, like decorating cakes, cupcakes, cookies, candy, petit fours.

 

 

2. Small Class Sizes:

The maximum class size is 6 students only for Courses 1 and 2, and even smaller class size for Course 3 and Fondant & Gumpaste Course with maximum of 4 students only. Therefore our students get all the personal attention that our Wilton trained instructors can give, and we all know how important that is when it comes to learning cake decoration techniques.

Learning at our kitchen studio is like being at a friend's house. We think steel tables are cold and unfriendly! Our studio is decorated and out-fitted with our students in mind. We

believe that when you are comfortable and at ease, you will enjoy your lessons more and learn better. Our students love our pine tables, comfortable chairs, wallpaper and lots of shelf room for their belongings. That, together with small class sizes, make our classes memorable and fun, and many of our students remain friends with each other and their instructors even after the course has ended.

 

  

FAQs

Q: Most schools offering the Wilton Method in other parts of the world offer 2 hours per lesson, 4 lessons per course, as B-I-Y does. However, there are a few that offer longer hours per class. Why is that?

A:  It depends on the size of the class. Some schools have very large classes (as large as 15 - 20 students in a class). So more time is required to teach the same curriculum to a large crowd. B-I-Y follows closely the Wilton courses as taught in the United States (the country of origin). With a small class, 2 hours per lesson is enough to ensure that all students are taught well, with close supervision by the instructor.

 

Q:  Some schools make all the necessary icings for their students. Why doesn't B-I-Y do the same?

A:   There are no short cuts to learning. B-I-Y follows closely the set procedure by Wilton Industries. We expect our students to make their own icings because we firmly believe that it is only by preparing their own icings that our students will learn. Making icings correctly and understanding icing consistencies are key to good decorating. Our trained Wilton Instructors are on hand to check the icings and instruct students if it is not up to the Wilton standard. In fact, we spend a lot of time ensuring that our students understand how to get their icings and icing consistencies right. For that matter, our students are also expected to bring and work on real cakes and not dummy cakes, because icing and decorating a dummy cake is very different from the real thing. Yes, B-I-Y students have more to prepare, but we believe they learn more too.

 

 

 

Wilton Method of Cake Decorating Course 1

Discover Cake Decorating

Thousands of people all over the whole have experienced the excitement of decorating their first cakes in a Wilton Method Class. With our certified Wilton Method Instructor as your guide, you will see how easy and rewarding it is to decorate wonderful cakes and other desserts that will delight your family and friends. Course I is the perfect place to start. Your Instructor will show you the right way to decorate, step by step.You will learn the basics of piping, icing a cake, working with buttercream. You will put everything that you have learnt together to design and create your finale cake project in the last lesson. As you learn each new decorating skill, you will gain a sense of pride in your accomplishments. Plus, you will be able to share your delicious results with family and friends!

2 hours per lesson, 4 lessons total.

Maximum Class Size: 6 students

 

Course Fees for Course 1 (includes student starter kit and book): S$270.00 net (no GST)

Wilton Method of Cake Decorating Course 2

Flowers and Borders

Course 2 expands your decorating skills to create even more sophisticated cakes. You can look forward to learning more advanced piping techniques with the help of your Wilton Method Instructor. Use royal icing to create beautiful flowers like chrysanthemums, rosebuds, daisies, petunias and much more. Build on your skills from Course I to pipe more delicate borders and accents. Add another dimension to your cakes by creating vivid colour flow accents. Everything that you have learnt will be used to create your finale cake project - transforming a plain cake into a gorgeous basket of flowers.

 

2 hours per lesson, 4 lessons total.

Maximum Class Size: 6 students

 

Pre-requisite: Wilton Method of Cake Decorating Course 1 Certificate of Completion

 

Course Fees for Course 2 (includes student starter kit and book): S$280.00 net (no GST)

 

Students who complete the course will receive the Wilton Course 2 Certificate of completion 

 

Wilton Method of Cake Decorating Course 3

Fondant and Tiered Cakes

Acquire more sophisticated skills in cake decorating with Course 3 of the Wilton Method Class. In Course 3, you will expand your decorating repertoire with rolled fondant / sugarpaste work. You will begin by learning to pipe delicate borders like lace, beads, stringwork and ruffles. You will learn to do brush embroidery to add a new dimension to your decorated cake. Then move on to rolled fondant / sugarpaste work. You will be taught the right way to cover a cake with rolled fondant, and, using this new medium, make three-dimensional flowers like roses, lilies, poinsettias, petunias, morning glories. You will learn how to construct tiered cakes, and for your final project, you will assemble your two-tier cake and decorate your masterpiece with the flowers and borders you have learnt to make in this course.

 

 

2 hours per lesson, 4 lessons total.

Maximum Class Size: 4 students

 

Pre-requisite: Wilton Method of Cake Decorating Course 1 Certificate of Completion

 

Course Fees for Course 3 (includes student starter kit and book): S$280.00 net (no GST)

Wilton Method of Cake Decorating - Fondant & Gumpaste

Fondant and Gumpaste

Take your cake decorating skill level even further with this newest 4 week Course, featuring basic and advanced fondant techniques and appliques, as well as beginner level gum paste flowers. Again, guided by your Wilton Method Instructor, you will learn how to manipulate fondant to acheive different textures and color shades. You will learn fondant tinting and marbleizing, and to cover a cake and cake board with fondant. You will also learn to creat advanced fondant embellishments, draping, hankerchief overlay, garlands and borders. Create beautiful gum paste flowers like daisy, carnation, fantasy flower and leaves, and finally, design and create your grand finale cake - a fondant favor box with fondant inlays and borders.

2 hours per lesson, 4 lessons total.

Maximum Class Size: 4 students

 

Pre-requisite: Wilton Method of Cake Decorating Course 1 Certificate of Completion
